Homemade healthy granola is such a tasty breakfast cereal alternative. The ones you can buy in the store usually have too much sugar, calories or just taste stale and sort of dusty! Not great, I am sure you will agree. But luckily granola is so easy to make, that you will NEVER have to buy granola ever again. Have homemade healthy granola for breakfast

I came up with this recipe for my own homemade granola a few years ago and it has become a staple in our home ever since -both for my breakfast with yoghurt and fresh cut fruits or as a quick snack for the kids. You can also make homemade energy bars as an alternative to this granola. The granola is easy to make and takes about half an hour including the time needed in the oven. There is really no reason not to make it.

Some of the ingredients are not always available in the shops, so I get the honey, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds from the True Elements brand on amazon.in. They are consistently good quality and not too costly either. I use these seeds for my gluten-free vegan crackers too.

Make it your favourite healthy homemade granola -just as you like it

You can customize the granola as you wish. So if you want a totally sugar free granola, you can leave the sugar out. I must admit that it tastes better with it… and it’s about 1 tsp of sugar per portion which isn’t a lot. I suggest adding raisins, apricots or even 70-80% dark chocolate to compensate for the sugar, if you want to omit the sugar totally. Add the dried fruits and chocolate after the granola has cooled fully so it doesn’t melt.

You can also change the other ingredients according to your taste buds and mood. So if you hate flax seeds -but love chia seeds- then just swap them out. I love to add coconut shavings and chia seeds to the mix and that way it never gets boring. The best thing about making your own granola is that you can make it YOUR favourite.

Note: I make this granola in the oven but you can also do it on a regular hot pan/tawa. Toast the granola until a little warm and brown. Do this with a little granola at a time for better results.

Yield: This recipe makes about 10-15 portions. See the full step-by-step instructions with pictures below the ingredients.

When the oven is hot, place it in the middle of the oven for about 14-16min. The sides will get darker quicker so keep an eye on them. The granola should never burn.

Let it cool fully before storing it in an airtight container. I always use the oval containers from Tupperware for my crackers and muesli. They help keep it fresh for longer. You can keep the granola for about 4 weeks. No need for refrigeration.
